2. There’s a Lot of Magic in Mariland
Before we watched the series, we expected "My Melody & Kuromi" to be a cozy show all about bake-offs and friendship. Well, the baking contest and friendship were still a big part of the series, but you’ll also find that the show has a ton of magical elements to it too! You see, while gathering ingredients for her cakes in the forest, My Melody stumbles upon a special creature- a magical heart!
There’s a lot of mystery surrounding Mr. Heart, and though it seems to enjoy My Melody’s company, a lot of strange and magical things start happening in Mariland. We’re not going to give away too many details since we’re sure you’ll want to watch the show after this, but we’re promising that you’ll find a lot of mystery and sparkle in the series!
3. You’ll Get Unexpected Twists & Surprises
There’s more to "My Melody & Kuromi"! The series isn’t just about cute visuals and friendship; there are some pretty dark undertones to it, too. Early on in the show, we get to learn about a lurking darkness in Mariland, and as the series progresses, things get a little bit serious. Homes are wrecked, friends are brainwashed, and surprise villains pop out of nowhere!
If you love cute surprises, you’ll love getting a new selection of kawaii goodies from Japan every month with a Kawaii Box subscription.
Though "My Melody & Kuromi" is 100% a kawaii series, the show also knows when to get serious. That’s what makes it a great watch, not just for kids but for adults too! We do have to warn you, though, sometimes the show can get a little bit too dark. That’s why it’s rated TV-PG. It's better if younger audiences watch "My Melody & Kuromi" with their parents or guardians.
4. The Action Sequences Are Fun!
Yes, "My Melody & Kuromi" has fight scenes! You might not expect it given that Mariland is a peaceful forest, but like we said earlier, the show is full of fun twists and surprises. "My Melody & Kuromi" has a number of key action sequences, and they're all super creative!
Imagine super cute high-stakes motorcycle chase sequences between Kuromi’s gang and My Melody, accompanied by her besties Flat and My Sweet Piano. Imagine planes flying in the sky thanks to the jet propulsion of honey from beehives. Imagine My Sweet Piano learning how to do kung-fu. "My Melody & Kuromi" is a kawaii, action-packed series!
5. There’s a Ton of Fun Sanrio Callbacks
Sanrio has elaborate backstories for its characters, and in "My Melody & Kuromi" we get to see these little tidbits come to life. Like the fact that My Melody’s mom is full of practical quotes. Or the fact that My Sweet Piano can’t really speak properly. The show is a treasure trove of little easter eggs that hardcore Sanrio fans will enjoy.

6. It’s All About Friendship

Can't get enough of My Melody and Kuromi? Keep the kawaii fun going with 8–10 cute Japanese goodies delivered to your door every month.
Kuromi and My Melody have always had a complex relationship. My Melody thinks of Kuromi as a friend, but Kuromi sees My Melody as some sort of rival. Despite her sweet and kind nature, My Melody can be a little bit obtuse, especially when it comes to Kuromi. Melo-chan is usually unaware when she’s accidentally hurting Kuromi, and in Netflix’s kawaii stop-motion series, you get to see that in action.
My Melody is the star of Mariland, and most of the time, she unknowingly steals the spotlight from Kuromi, even during the cheeky bunny’s birthday! Because of this, Kuromi holds some sort of grudge against My Melo and tries to beat her at what she does best - baking. Eventually, though, Kuromi and My Melody have to work together to help bring Mariland back together. In the end, the two learn that they’re better off working together!
There you have it. Those are all the reasons why you should give "My Melody & Kuromi" a try! Full of cuteness, warmth, magic, and surprising twists, "My Melody & Kuromi" is a must-watch show for the kawaii fanatic. Did you like our My Melody & Kuromi review?
